Internal Medicine
Published in Paperback by McGraw-Hill/Appleton & Lange (June, 1993)
Author: Jay Stein
Average review score:

The first truly comprehensive medical textbook I've seen.
I first came across this book last year when I was feverishly studying for my 4th year medical exams. What really excited me was that I could look things up in the index and actually find a paragraph or two explaining my query, no matter how obscure the reference. Textbooks like Harrisons baffle me; why would I want to spend 45 minutes looking at the ten different times my word has been mentioned when all I want to know is what it means and when its important.

Anyway I think this textbook is very well set out and thouroughly comprehensive. Obviously its not a bed-time read, but its really helpful when you're stumped by a fact in a multi-guess paper or you have some obscure fact to look up and present to your consultant.

I have no hesitation in giving it 5 stars. Right now I'm waiting on the next edition....I hope it comes in soon.

Jam Master Jay : The Heart of Hip-Hop
Published in Mass Market Paperback by MTV Books (01 April, 2003)
Author: David E. Thigpen
Average review score:

Why Jam Master Jay Matters
In the mid-eighties, before rap splintered into countless subfactions - gangsta, political, bohemian and so on - Run-DMC were hip-hop to the better part of mainstream America. Run, DMC and Jay's family didn't contribute interviews to this book, yet despite being consigned to the outside looking in, Thigpen pieces together a taut story, locating Jay at the center of all things Run-DMC and, in turn, all things hip-hop. Interviews with Jay's childhood friends and music executives, plus a host of quotes culled from other sources, show Jay to be not only a generous person but also the one who held his group together as personal demons and difficult attitudes threatened to tear it asunder. Whose house? Jay's house.

Jane Vs. the Tooth Fairy
Published in Hardcover by Northland Pub (August, 1900)
Authors: Betsy Jay and Lori Osiecki
Average review score:

Another great story from Jane and Jay
The second installment in the Jane stories is magnificent. I reccomend this book to all those who loved Jane's adventures in Swimming Lessons and those who have yet to discover her spunk and charm. Jay once again proves her talent as an author and brillant insight into the mind of a child.

Jay Cee: A Political Novel of the Presidency
Published in Paperback by 1stBooks Library (August, 2000)
Author: Henry A. Buchanan
Average review score:

Another Great Tale From A Great Storyteller
Henry Buchanan, who calls himself a teller of tales, has outdone himself with this one. As in several of his other books he sketches the life and adventures of a flawed messiah. This one is John Calvin (hence Jay Cee) Brisbane. His mother had prayed for him to receive "the Call" and become a great preacher, but instead he was "called" to become President of the United States. And in fact he does. He is not a likely president, more of a dreamer than a politician, but his brother who is politically astute and his father-in-law, a famous senator, guide him to fulfill his destiny. This is an improbable tale but tremendously entertaining and well written, easy to read, and with some poignant insights into our political system. I recommend it highly.

Jay Jay the Jet Plane: Hide-And-Seek With Jay Jay
Published in Hardcover by Price Stern Sloan Pub (June, 2002)
Author: Kelli Chipponeri
Average review score:

great book!
My son received this book for christmas and we rarely go a day without reading it. He's 8 months old and loves watching Jay Jay, and he really enjoys the flaps in this book. I do wish the flaps were attached a little sturdier, since one he was able to tear off almost all the way. But the flaps themselves can withstand a decent amount of abuse from his little hands!

Jay Rockefeller: Old Money New Politics
Published in Hardcover by Jalamap Pubns Inc (01 June, 1984)
Author: Richard Grimes
Average review score:

One of the Greatest Books of the Late 20th Century
Author Richard Grimes speaks truth in a way that so very few dare. He touches on the much under-documented Rockefeller Administration during the 70s and 80s in poverty stricken West Virginia. In this feeble age where family dynasties permeate our American landscape, the Rockefeller name is no small player in the game. One could never know just how powerful, and yet decievingly humble the now Senator Jay Rockefeller was during those dusty days of Mountain State politics. Grimes shows what those in West Virginia must have known for decades: Rockefeller played savior to a needy state, but only got as far as his family dollar would allow. Grimes' evenhanded, yet painfully honest writing represents last from a rare breed of 'old school' journalists. The writing in this book is some of the best that this generation has to offer. His work continues to serve as an inspiration to me. Kudos Grimes!!!
